Social Stream Ninja TTS Guide

Complete guide to Text-to-Speech voice options, browser compatibility, and audio capture

Overview

SSN can read captured chat text from any supported source; the chat platform does not need its own TTS feature. Your TTS-enabled dock or overlay speaks the messages it receives, subject to its filters and TTS settings. Start with the short setup guide; this page covers voice options and advanced settings. Compare providers, hear samples and see the settings.

Quick Start: Use dock.html?session=YOUR_SESSION&speech=en-US. This defaults to System TTS. For a free OBS provider, also add &ttsprovider=kokoro. Keep this page open and connected; only one copy should speak.

Where is TTS Used?

System TTS is not the same as all free TTS:
  • System voices depend on the browser and operating system. OBS may expose no usable voices, even when Chrome/Edge works.
  • A missing voice is different from speech playing outside OBS’s audio capture. Audio routing cannot fix missing speech support.
  • Free providers such as Kokoro, Piper, Kitten, and eSpeak generate page audio instead. Payment is not required for TTS in OBS.
  • Check voice availability, then audio capture.

System Voice Availability

These are typical capabilities, not guarantees for every installation. OBS uses its own embedded browser and does not inherit an installed Chrome/Edge voice list. A successful SSN app test does not test a separate OBS Browser Source.

System TTS Capture Methods

Important: First confirm that System TTS generates speech. OBS’s embedded browser may not expose a usable system voice. If it generates no speech, changing audio routing will not help. Choose another provider, or generate speech in a supported browser and capture that browser’s audio.

For System TTS specifically:

Routing downloads: VB-Audio Virtual Cable | Voicemeeter | Audio Router (legacy)

Try capturing the speaking browser with OBS application or desktop audio first, where supported. The virtual-cable methods below are optional alternatives; they do not add speech support to OBS.

Method 1: Default Audio Route with a Virtual Cable

1. Set VB-Audio Virtual Cable as Windows default output - Sound Settings > Output > CABLE Input 2. OBS: - Add Audio Input Capture - Source: CABLE Output - Monitor: Monitor and Output, or Monitor Only if another source handles stream output

Method 2: Windows 10 App Route

1. Sound Settings > App volume and device preferences 2. Find browser in list 3. Output: CABLE Input 4. OBS setup same as Method 1

Method 3: Windows 11 App Route

1. Settings > System > Sound > Volume Mixer 2. Locate browser 3. Output: CABLE Input 4. OBS setup same as Method 1

Method 4: Audio Router Software

1. Install Audio Router 2. Route browser to CABLE Input 3. OBS setup same as Method 1

Method 5: Voicemeeter (Advanced)

1. Install Voicemeeter 2. Set as Windows default output 3. Route: - Hardware out > speakers - Virtual out > OBS 4. OBS captures Voicemeeter output

Testing Your Setup

1. Play TTS 2. Check OBS meter 3. Verify system audio 4. Adjust levels if needed
Alternatives: Use a free built-in provider such as Kokoro, Piper, Kitten, or eSpeak, a cloud provider, or a self-hosted TTS server.

Installing Additional Language Packs

Windows 11

  1. Navigate to Start > Settings > Time & Language > Speech
  2. Under Manage Voices, click Add Voices
  3. Select desired languages and click Add
  4. Restart browsers to refresh available voices

Windows 10

Follow Microsoft's official guide for installing language packs.

Tip: Some third-party voices may not appear in browsers due to compatibility issues. Firefox often shows more system voices than Chromium-based browsers.

Check This Browser's System Voices

This lists System TTS voices in the browser displaying this guide only. It does not test OBS, a separate SSN app window, or providers such as Kokoro. An empty list does not mean SSN’s other TTS providers are unavailable.
